Dobbins Drive Detour
Route CL • Route D
Chapel Hill Transit will detour the CL and D routes starting Monday, January 6, 2020 due to a construction project on Dobbins Dr. This detour will last until we receive authorization to continue service from Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA).
The afternoon CL Route, will make a u-turn on Franklin St. and a left turn on Dobbins Dr. to Summerfield Crossing Rd. to avoid the closed section of Dobbins Dr.
From Dobbins Dr. the D Route will turn right onto Erwin Rd., left onto Old Oxford Road and left onto Summerfield crossing to return to the open section of Dobbins Drive.
REVISED: a previous listing of this detour stated Bradley Rd. would not be served. That was incorrect, the correct detour for the A route turns onto Umstead Drive, Bradley Road, turns left onto Williams Circle, right onto Barclay, and left onto Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd.
Route A has been detoured to allow completion of an OWASA project in the area. Route A will not serve Barclay Rd., Weiner St. or Severin St., until the project is complete. Riders should use temporary stops along Barclay Rd. between Williams Circle and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
On August 12, Chapel Hill Transit made several changes to the route HS. The new routing provides service to Rogers, High School and Homestead roads, and extends service to UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Hospitals and Smith Level and Culbreth roads. This change was intended to provide better access between neighborhoods and employment, community facilities and schools along its route.
On Sept. 30, Chapel Hill Transit adjusted the route to improve its reliability and on-time performance. The below is a description of the routing of the HS:
- Begin at Morris Grove Elementary,
- Right on Rogers Road,
- Right on Homestead Road,
- Left on High School Road,
- Left on Seawell School Road,
- Right on Homestead Road,
- Right on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard,
- Continues onto S. Columbia Street,
- Right on Cameron Avenue,
- Left on Pittsboro Street,
- Right on S. Columbia Street,
- Right on Culbreth Road,
- Right on Smith Level,
- Right on S. Fordham Boulevard,
- Left on S. Columbia Street,
- Continue route in reverse
Route HS will begin operating at 6:15 a.m. and will run every 70 minutes until it’s last run starting at 6:38 p.m.
We are currently working on updating all route maps and technologies to reflect the current routing and timetable. In the meantime, temporary maps and schedules have been posted at high ridership stops and with facilities who distribute schedules along the route.
If you would like additional information about the route, the temporary schedule materials or to get new route maps when they are delivered, please email Chapel Hill Transit at email@example.com. We will post updates as soon as we are able.
Thank you all for your continued patience and feedback!
