Businesses have multiple waste disposal options in the Chapel Hill Downtown. Following is a quick guide to those options and contact information for the Town and County to contact with any questions:

||The Town of Chapel Hill contracts for the provision of two compactors, located behind the Post Office and behind Starbucks for businesses in the designated downtown compactor area. Businesses pay the Town for the use of these compactors. See below map for location of compactors.

||Town of Chapel Hill
||Businesses may be eligible for the Town’s garbage collection service. Businesses pay the Town for this collection service. To determine eligibility, contact the Town’s Public Works Department. See below map for location of dumpsters.

||Businesses may provide their own waste containers (e.g., compactors, dumpsters, roll carts) and pay for their service. These are commonly in locked private waste enclosures and are the responsibility of the owner.||Varies
||Orange County provides blue 96 gallon recycling rolling carts for use by businesses. The County will repair and replace broken and damaged carts, but users are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the area in and around the carts. Issues with maintaining a clean site should be communicated to the County.||Monday & Friday before 8am

||Cardboard dumpster collection
||Orange County services two cardboard dumpster locations for downtown businesses. One is located along North Alley adjacent to the Wallace Parking Deck and the other is located in parking lot at the corner of N. Columbia and W. Rosemary St.||Commercial recycling

||Private business||Bulky items include but are not limited to: furniture, large appliances, shopping carts, or other large items that cannot be disposed of in a compactor, dumpster, or roll cart container. Businesses are responsible for contacting a solid waste hauler (or the Town if the Town is their solid waste hauler) to remove bulky items from their property.||Varies|
|Grease||Private business||Restaurants are required to comply with the Town’s illicit discharge ordinance (Article V, Section 23-78 through 90) which includes maintaining grease containers and arranging for them to be serviced.||Town restaurant educational materials
