The Community Services Unit works to make Chapel Hill safer through emphasis on crime prevention. Every officer in the department is involved in this important function. The members of this unit spend much of their time speaking to civic groups, school classes, community organizations, church groups, and other groups about the services offered by the police department. They also address crime prevention, personal safety, and commercial theft prevention.
Community Services officers work closely with residents to address problems in Chapel Hill neighborhoods. They conduct site surveys of nuisance properties, attend neighborhood meetings, and work with State and local agencies to coordinate neighborhood efforts.
Community Services officers coordinate Neighborhood Watch, the Business Alert Network, and Latino outreach efforts. Please click on the items to learn more about these programs.
The outreach to the Latino population effort includes Spanish language crime prevention programs, personal safety classes, and education about Chapel Hill law enforcement and North Carolina Laws.
