What was changed in the regulations?

  • Provisions allowing multifunctional landscaping for stormwater mitigation
  • Provisions allowing shade structures, including solar canopies
  • Clearer standards for tree canopy and improved screening
  • Provisions to reinforce ADA accessibility requirements
  • New illustrations to help describe the standards

What are some of the possible community benefits?

  • Allowing multifunctional landscaping with biorentention areas, for example, can mitigate the effects of stormwater and its impacts on water quality and quantity.
  • Adding more shade trees can reduce the heat island effect by limiting the amount of energy that can be absorbed directly by parking lot surfaces.
