Artist + Transit Bus Shelterspr_design_Erickson

Since the fall of 2018 local artists have been creating public art on bus shelters in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.  These delightful and eye-catching installations include the spraypainted stencil designs of Ingrid Erickson, the screen print posters of Ron Liberti, the neon tapework of Mary Carter Taub and more.

"Artistically upfitted" bus shelters include those at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Stateside Drive, South Columbia Street at UNC's Health Sciences Library, Carrboro Town Hall, UPlace by Silverspot Cinema, and the Park & Ride lots at Eubanks Road and Southern Village.

Six more artistic bus shelters are scheduled for installation by mid-summer of 2019, so stay tuned!

These installations are part of a larger collaboration between Chapel Hill Transit and the Town of Chapel Hill’s Community Arts & Culture Division aimed at enlivening the daily commute and bringing art into the community’s everyday life.

Design at right by Ingrid Erickson.
