Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) is the second largest transit system in North Carolina, providing over seven million rides per year. CHT serves the communities of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). The two towns and the university share annual operating and capital costs associated with CHT on a contractual basis.
CHT is a fare-free system with fixed-route bus service on 31 weekday and weekend routes and EZ Rider demand response (ADA) service. CHT has a fleet of 121 vehicles (98 fixed-route and 22 demand response) - covering over 2.5 million miles per year in a service area of 62 square miles.
CHT operates from 5:00 a.m. to 1:15 a.m. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday year round, except for most holidays and during UNC breaks. Click here for the Holiday and Break Schedule.

Real-Time Arrival Information
Nextbus provides real time arrivals of the buses. Nextbus uses global positional satellites to track buses on their routes and then predicts the bus arrival times. The predictions are available at nextbus.com and chtransit.org, on display signs at various bus stops, and on internet capable cell phones.
Plan a Trip
Plan your trip on transit by visiting GoTriangle.org or google.com/transit. Just enter your starting and ending destinations and the trip planner does the rest.
CHT, in coordination with GoTransitnc.org, has resources available for developers to create applications for desktop, web or mobile devices. By registering as an app developer, you will have access to all local transit General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) files and GISShapefiles for fixed routes and bus stops. These downloads provide the same official schedule data that supports GoTransit’s online trip planner.
