Traffic Calming Improvements
This is a pilot project using modular bollards, which can be quickly installed or modified as needed. The modular bollards are made of plastic and can be bumped without damaging the bollards or vehicles. The purpose of the bollards is to narrow the roadway and create horizontal displacement to slow down vehicles. They are also much more cost-effective compared to concrete installations.
Why Are We Using Bollards?
In the past, speed tables and speed humps were used for traffic calming. However, these elements can damage fire department vehicles.
The Town is tracking vehicle speeds on Brookview to see if the design is having the desired effect. If the pilot project does not work, the design can be removed or additional devices installed.
