The Chapel Hill Police Department receives many requests each year from qualified individuals requesting sponsorship to attend area community college Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) programs. Based on the number of applicants, we give primary consideration to residents of Orange County, and applicants who have successfully completed the screening process for employment with the Chapel Hill Police Department.

Applicants for sponsorship must meet the minimum qualifications required for employment as a police officer in North Carolina (see Qualifications). Please email Lt. Nate Chambers to inquire about sponsorship for BLET

Selected applicants must submit to an interview and background investigation.

Please be advised that a sponsorship agreement does not guarantee the applicant employment with the Chapel Hill Police Department or any other law enforcement agency. Also, any expenses related to attendance in BLET will be the responsibility of the sponsored applicant.
