The goal of the E2E project is to work toward a multimodal network of facilities that connects schools, shopping, parks, healthcare opportunities, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

When fully complete, 57% of Chapel Hill residents will live within 1/4 mile of a transportation greenway.

So, what are E2E Greenways?

• When fully built out, Everywhere to Everywhere (E2E) Greenways will form an interconnected network of off-road facilities, providing useful, accessible, safe, comfortable, affordable, and connected transportation options for community members
• E2E will maximize connectivity to the Town’s transit system, a planned bus rapid transit (BRT) route, and transit-oriented development (TOD) focus areas near planned BRT stations

Recently Completed

• The Estes Drive Connectivity Project
• The Homestead Road Connectivity Project

Current 

• The Estes Drive Extension Improvements Project will construct pedestrian and bicycle improvements along Estes Drive Extension from Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd to the Carrboro border. It's currently in the design and engineering phase. 

• The Bolin Creek Greenway Extension Project will construct a pedestrian and bicycle path from Umstead Park to Estes Drive Extension.  It's currently in the design and engineering phase.

• The West Cameron Avenue Protected Bike Lane Project will construct protected bike lanes along Cameron Avenue from Merritt Mill Road to South Columbia Street.  It's currently in the design and engineering phase.

• The Tanyard Brach Trail Neighborhood Connector will connect Board Street in Carrboro to Estes Drive Extension near the railroad tracks. It will also connect to the existing Tanyard Branch Trail and the future affordable homes at Tanyard Branch Trace. While the Tanyard Branch Trace housing developer will be constructing most of this greenway, the Town has taken responsibility for connecting it on both ends. It's currently in the design and engineering phase.

Future

• Sidewalk Gap Project will fill various high priority sidewalk gaps around town. 

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Town of Chapel Hill a $1,000,000 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant. 

This grant program helps communities around the country carry out projects with significant local or regional impact.   

The Town’s grant proposal includes funding for feasibility studies for the Everywhere to Everywhere (E2E) Greenways project. 

What will the RAISE grant do?

• It will conduct feasibility studies on the full 25-mile network of greenways identified as priority corridors in the Mobility and Connectivity Plan
• It will include extensive community engagement around greenway alignments, including equity, environment, and safety
• It will support analyzing the system as a whole, rather than a piece-by-piece approach

What will the feasibility studies help accomplish?

• They will help with securing federal funds in the future
• They will let the Town identify potential issues and alternative routes
• They will support a 15% conceptual design and public engagement

Safe Routes to School programs aim to improve the environment for walking, biking, and rolling to school.

Walking, biking, and rolling to school benefits not only students but also the community as a whole.  It boosts health, happiness, and the environment.

Safe Routes to School is a collaborative program that brings together community members, teachers and school staff, public health practitioners, planners, and others to change norms in how we move around our communities.

Vision Zero is a global strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. ZERO loss of life on Chapel Hill roads is acceptable. Vision Zero recognizes that people make mistakes, and that these mistakes should not be fatal.

In October 2021, Chapel Hill Town Council adopted the Vision Zero Resolution aiming to eliminate death and serious injuries by 2031.
