Zoning Atlas Amendment & Special Use Permit Application
In March of 2012, WCI Partners, the development company proposing the Charterwood Project, submitted a new Zoning Atlas Amendment (ZAA) Application with revised zoning boundaries based on a redrawing/recombination of the parcels of the land area of the project. Information on this new ZAA Application is below. Originally submitted in 2007, the Charterwood Project, had previously gone through the Chapel Hill Development Review Process; information on these earlier phases of the project are listed below these most recent applications of March, 2012.
Charterwood: Zoning Atlas Amendment New Application, March, 2012
At the January 30, 2012, the Town Council meeting, Town Council reviewed and voted on a Zoning Atlas Amendment Ordinance for the Charterwood development. The application was subject to a super-majority vote due to a valid protest petition. No action was taken on the rezoning application. The vote on the Ordinance failed to pass with a super-majority vote and the vote on the Resolution to deny the rezoning application also did not pass.
Because no action was taken on the rezoning application, the applicant has chosen to submit a new Zoning Atlas Amendment application.
The applicant’s existing Special Use Permit application to construct 278,270 square feet of floor area in 6 buildings including 154 dwelling units is currently in process. The Special Use Permit application has already been through the development review process, and the public hearing has been closed.
