Ephesus Park - Tennis and Pickleball Courts Project

A geotechnical engineer was hired to assess the conditions and prepared a report recommending a complete future reconstruction of the tennis and pickleball courts to address subsurface issues affecting court conditions.

Until funding is secured, the Department has utilized internal resources to address drainage issues and collaborated with a contractor to resurface the tennis courts and repair the pickleball courts.

Background

The three Hargraves Park tennis courts are being resurfaced to address weathering, drainage, and to provide an accessible path from the parking lot.

The Ephesus Park tennis courts and pickleball courts' surfaces are showing wear and tear due to drainage issues and subsurface conditions.

The six Cedar Falls Park tennis courts are about 45 years old. Age, weathering, and drainage all contribute to the need to remove and replace the courts, including the following:

  • Replace six tennis courts with six new full-size tennis courts with lines for junior play.
  • Additional room between courts
  • Overall,25 additional feet compared to the current courts (expanded to the east and west)
  • Areas for bench seating
  • Areas for shaded bleacher seating
  • New energy-efficient LED lighting system
  • Accessible path
  • Paved Entrance Plaza with bottle filler water fountain, benches, shade, and kiosk
