New ExoFit Fitness Circuit

Trail type 10' wide paved woodland trail; few steep slopes. Featuring a ExoFit Fitness Course
Length 1.62 miles
Connections Trail connects Southern Village, The Hyatt Place  with Southern Community Park, also connects to Morgan Creek Trail
Parking Parking is available at the Southern Community Park, Southern Village Park and Ride Lot, or on the streets in Southern Village.

A new fitness course has been installed along the greenway in Southern Community Park, thanks to a collaboration among the Town of Chapel Hill and Southern Village, including contributions from Market Street Association, Southern Village Homeowners Association,
Southern Village Apartments and Hyatt Place.

The course includes the following equipment by 
Barrs Recreation and ExoFit Outdoor Fitness:

Doubles Pull Up Bars

Muscle Focus: Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders, Chest and Back

Training: A traditional piece of fitness equipment, which is great for pull-ups and hanging in place to stretch.

Arm/Foot Wheel

Muscle Focus: Arms and Shoulders
Muscle Focus: Calves, Hamstrings and Quads

Training: Grip both handles firmly. Begin by moving one hand forward and pulling the other toward you. Continue at a comfortable pace.

Pushup/Dip Combo

Muscle Focus: Triceps, Biceps, Shoulders, Chest and Core

Training: This multi-purpose product can be used for tricep dips and push-ups.

 Lat Pull Down

Muscle Focus: Back, Shoulders and Biceps

Training: This will help strengthen your back, rear shoulders, and biceps.

Chest Press

Muscle Focus: Chest, Triceps and Shoulders

Training: Provides an optimal range of motion while you press out and lift part of your body weight as resistance.

Double Leg Press

Muscle Focus: Strengthens Leg muscles (particularly Quadriceps and Calves), as well as Gluteus Maximus

Training: Stretching legs with force and recover slowly. Repeat. An important workout for developing leg strength,

Row Machine

Muscle Focus: Upper Back, Lower Back, Shoulders, and Biceps

Training: Using a portion of your body weight as resistance, this machine helps develop strength in your back, shoulders and biceps, while giving a great cardio workout.


Sit Up Bench

Muscle Focus: Core and Back 

Training: Improve the strength of the abdominal muscles, as well as the flexor muscles of the hip and upper thigh.

Air Walker

Muscle Focus: Lower Body, including Hips, Glutueus Maximus and Quadriceps

Training: A great low-impact cardio workout that improves flexibility of hip muscles and hamstrings

Muscle Focus: Lower Body, Core, Upper Body

Training: Develop strength in the legs and hips, while improving cardiovascular endurance.

Fitness Bike

Muscle Focus: Lower Body

Training: A great low-impact cardio workout, that can also strengthen the thighs, glutes and calves.

The outdoor fitness course on the Fan Branch Trail is currently open for public use.

Each piece of equipment is designed to be unique from the other, and is highlighted by its placement in the natural setting of the greenway.

The equipment can be used in a variety of ways by adults and children of all ages. Everyone in the community is encouraged to use the new fitness course.
