The Town of Chapel Hill has interpretation equipment available for community members to borrow at no charge. This equipment is intended to support making communications accessible in languages other than English and aligns with goals and strategies set forth in the Town's Strategic Plan, the Town’s Building Integrated Communities Action Plan, and the Town’s Language Access Plan.
The Town’s interpretation equipment includes 50 headsets and 3 transmitters.
This means that up to 50 people can use the equipment and up to 3 languages can be simultaneously interpreted.
Simultaneous interpretation is suitable for large group meetings in which the speaker does not pause and interpretation is delivered in approximately real-time.
The interpretation equipment is a community resource. It is expected that community users will follow the below polices:
Equipment may be borrowed at no charge.
Equipment is available on a first come, first-serve basis.
When possible, requests should be made at least 72 hours in advance to help ensure availability. If this is not possible, reach out and we will do our best to meet your needs.
In your request, please include event description, date, length of time you need the equipment, and estimated number of headsets needed.
If this is your first time requesting equipment, you will be required to review the equipment policy and instructions with a Town staff member at time of pickup.Please plan to have 10-15 minutes for this brief training.
Once the equipment is in your possession, you are responsible the equipment and may not loan it to a third party.
You are responsible for properly caring for the equipment and reporting any equipment damages or malfunctions that occur in the Equipment Issues Log. If the damages are irreparable or otherwise impractical to attempt a repair, you will be responsible for the replacement cost for the item.
You must return the equipment to the Town no later than the date and time agreed upon. All loan extensions should be requested prior to the return date.
