Colorful Crosswalks Coming to Chapel Hill

The Town of Chapel Hill is launching a new initiative to increase visibility between people who walk and people who drive.
New crosswalks will be installed as early as this fall (2016) with bright paint and artist renderings rather than the standard ‘zebra striping’ crosswalks.
Last week, crews installed a test project on Willow Drive off Estes Drive (near University Place) to monitor the durability of the paint through traffic, weather and regular maintenance. Transpo Industries, Inc out of Henderson, NC, supplied the paint for the test project free of charge to the Town.

Town staff will solicit design ideas from Chapel Hill residents with the intention of installing them on Rosemary Street and Cameron Avenue once repaving is complete this year.
#DidYouKnow: The colors chosen for the pilot project were Carolina Blue and the green and blue from the Town seal.
