Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday

Martin Luther King Jr. giving a speech in front of many microphonesMonday, Jan. 20 is a Town holiday. Most Town offices will be closed. This message outlines which services are affected. 

Trash and Recycling Collection 

  • Residential trash will not be collected (make-up day Wednesday, Jan. 22). 

  • Curbside recycling will not be collected. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day this week. 

  • Orange County Landfill and Waste and Recycling Centers will be closed. 

  • Commercial trash will not be collected. Collections will be completed by the end of the week.  

  • Yard trimmings collection will not be affected. 

Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed. 

Chapel Hill Transit will run Sunday routes: A, CM, CW, D, J, N and NS routes will run. U and NU routes will not run. EZ Rider hours are 8:15 a.m. to 6:52 p.m.  

Public Housing Office and Maintenance Division will be closed. For emergency maintenance services, call (919) 968-2855.  

Parks and Recreation 

  • Facilities open Monday, January 20, from 10am to 7pm: Chapel Hill Community Center and Indoor Pool, Nate Davis Sr. Gymnasium. 

  • Facilities closed Monday, January 20: Parks & Rec Administrative Offices, Hargraves Center, Teen Center and Homestead Aquatics Center. 

  • Parks, greenways, trails, dog parks, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and outdoor park amenities are all open. We encourage you to get outside and enjoy being active.
