DISTRIBUTING FOODChapel Hill Friends and Neighbors,

The delivery of more than 2,000 meals to Chapel Hill-Carrboro students yesterday and again today is nothing short of amazing.

I want to thank the Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools, local organizations and non-profit partners for mobilizing quickly to provide food to children throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro.

To best serve our community and meet growing demands, we are working hard to increase coordination between our non-profit partners. Here are some of the things that are underway:

  • TABLE is delivering healthy, non-perishable food to kids once a week
  • The IFC Food Pantry and Community Kitchen are providing meals and groceries to families and adults
  • Meals on Wheels is delivering a hot meal and five frozen meals to Seniors once a week
  • PORCH has been helping to distribute grocery gift cards
  • Town staff is working with other community partners to identify needs in the community and coordinate resources

We know the need will continue to grow and are working together to match resources with community needs.

Our partners are adapting their models to make sure they can provide meals and groceries while also observing social distancing precautions.

Things you can do immediately include:

1. If you are able, donate funds or food to one of these organizations:

2. Signal your interest in volunteer opportunities by filling out the Community Partnership volunteer survey form.

3. Keep an eye on friends and neighbors

Also, if you need help or have questions, please reach out.  The Town has set up a Call Center (919-969-5005) and is currently compiling a list of resources which will be posted shortly on the Town of Chapel Hill’s COVID-19 Resource Webpage.

Please stay tuned.  I will continue to share information about community resources and volunteer opportunities as I learn of them.

Mayor Pam Hemminger
