When local government marks its 200th year on Nov. 20, 2019, the Town of Chapel Hill celebrates with cake and community.
The Town’s bicentennial celebration honors the day the General Assembly formed local government for Chapel Hill. The birthday reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the first floor conference room of Chapel Hill Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The celebration will include brief remarks, opportunities for attendees to share memories, the opening of a time capsule from 25 years ago – and cake! Guests will include former members of the Town Council, former mayors, state legislators, UNC leaders and the 1819/2019 steering committee.
To commemorate Chapel Hill's extraordinary community, Town departments and local organizations have been hosting programming and events. Thanks to all who have acknowledged this milestone and participated via www.chapelhill1819.org.
