The Town of Chapel Hill is monitoring the forecast and considering adjusting street closures downtown for Thursday evening, Oct. 31, 2019. Town officials will make a decision with community safety as the top priority.

“We are asking everyone to check the latest weather forecast before leaving their homes, regardless of their destination. We strongly recommend everyone be prepared to adjust their evening plans, to include remaining indoors while inclement weather is in the forecast,” said Vencelin Harris, the Town’s emergency management coordinator. “Depending on crowd size and the potential for hazardous weather conditions, the downtown street closure may not take place.”

There is potential for a line of storms to come through the area during the scheduled downtown street closures. Threats could include strong winds, lightning, and isolated tornadoes.

The Town will not adjust the time at which downtown streets will reopen to motor-vehicle traffic, and Halloween-associated closures will not be rescheduled.

Halloween-associated activities, like trick-or-treating, are not organized by the Town. Neighborhoods may determine if they want to reschedule their Halloween activities.

Announcements will be made on Town of Chapel Hill channels at townofchapelhill.org, on Twitter @ChapelHillGov, and on //Facebook.com/ChapelHillGov.
