Electronics 320PX

The Town of Chapel Hill has partnered with Kramden Institute and University Place to make donating used electronics easier and more convenient. On Saturday, Sept. 7, bring your old electronics (see below for list of accepted items). Donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Place parking lot on Willow Drive behind Silverspot Cinema, 201 S. Estes Drive.

The Kramden Institute will refurbish reusable equipment and distribute it to families in need. Donations are tax-deductible. This event gives community members a safe and convenient way to dispose of old computers, helps divert these materials from the landfill, and furthers Kramden’s mission to provide technology tools and training to bridge the digital divide.

Items accepted: desktop computers, laptop computers, LCD monitors, peripherals (mice, keyboards, hard drives, RAM, flash drives, power cords, VGA cables, etc.), servers, enterprise networking equipment, tablets, and cellphones (any age/make/condition).

Sorry, we do not accept CRT monitors, printers, scanners, shredders, stereo speakers, household appliances, consumer electronics, lamps or bulbs.

Every hard drive that can be reused goes through software wiping protocol. Hard drives that are too old or fail hardware tests will be physically destroyed through an R2-certified recycler.
