Mayor Hemminger Signs Letter Urging Senate Action on Gun Safety Legislation

Post Date:08/09/2019 11:12 AM

Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger has joined with 214 mayors from across the United States who are urging members of the U.S. Senate to take immediate action on bipartisan gun safety legislation.

In the letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the mayors call for quick passage of H.R. 8 (Bipartisan Background Check Act of 2019) and H.R. 1112 (Enhanced Background Check Act of 2019). Both bills were passed by the House of Representatives in February 2019.

“Already in 2019 there have been over 250 mass shootings. The tragic events in El Paso and Dayton this weekend are just the latest reminders that our nation can no longer wait for our federal government to take the actions necessary to prevent people who should not have access to firearms from being able to purchase them.”
