Who’s up for a Virtual Swim Challenge across the English Channel?
Who’s up for a challenge to start off the New Year? Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation is hosting a virtual Swim Challenge across the English Channel to encourage you to set a goal, get yourself moving, and swim your way to a healthier new you in 2019.
Set your sights on the 21 mile distance from the United Kingdom, across the English Channel to France, or a loop for 42 miles. If you like, just start swimming and see how far you can go! The official Challenge begins January 1 and wraps up on February 10, though you can keep on swimming as long as it takes to complete your personal goal.
To register, go to www.chapelhillparks.org and click on the English Channel Swim Challenge icon. There you will log on to Racery.com to set up your virtual avatar on the starting line. We encourage you to register early, it’s only $1 dollar to sign up!
You will receive an email reminder on January 1 to start the virtual swim challenge and begin logging your swims. You can swim anywhere (seriously anywhere, but we suggest indoors). Just track your and log your distance via a daily email from Racery.com. Your distance will be plotted instantly on our virtual online map, and you’ll be able to follow your bouncing avatar as it forges its way across the Channel.
Follow your progress on any computer or by downloading the Racery.com app to your mobile device. Share the link and challenge friends and family to join you on your journey.
Not a distance swimmer? No worries! Whether 2 laps or 20, just go as far as you can, and challenge yourself to do a little more each time you swim! It’s all very cool (well, actually extremely cold, with strong winds, brisk currents and scary marine life, but then again, it’s virtual!) Hope you will join us!
