Town Services Closed Due to Water Emergency
Water Emergency Update (11:30 am Monday)
Due to a water emergency, all Town of Chapel Hill services are closed effective 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, until further notice.
Services that are closed include Parks and Recreation facilities, fields and aquatic centers, the Chapel Hill Public Library, Planning and Development Services, and Business Management Services. Also, Parks and Recreation basketball skill assessments scheduled for tonight have been postponed to next Monday. Town meetings have been canceled. See www.townofchapelhill.org/calendar for more.
Town departments that will remain in operation are Chapel Hill Transit, Police, Fire and Public Works including the Stormwater Division.
Boiled Water Advisory
OWASA directs its customers to not use water until further notice after a major waterline break this morning near its water treatment plant. Water levels have dropped significantly. OWASA has issued a Boiled Water Advisory. For more information on the water shortage, visit www.owasa.org/boilwater
From Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
All Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will close early today. Elementary schools are dismissing at 11:30 a.m., middle schools at 12 p.m. noon, and high schools at 1 p.m. All after-school programs are canceled.
Town Fire Response
The Chapel Hill and Carrboro fire departments have contacted their mutual-aid partners who have resources to assist in bringing additional water to fire scenes. In the event of a fire, those partners are prepared to respond to assist in maintaining a water supply for firefighting until water levels are restored for OWASA customers.
