Give your feedback on the Inclusive Playground

The Town of Chapel Hill seeks public feedback on the planned Inclusive Playground for Cedar Falls Park, 501 Weaver Dairy Road.

The project currently has two schematics available that show the proposed playground layout along with its relation to the surroundings. Those who wish to review the plans are asked to respond with comments by Aug. 24.

In the fall of 2016, the Town held public meetings to gather input concerning the possibility of building an Inclusive Playground in Chapel Hill. An inclusive playground is one that welcomes all children, including those with mental or physical challenges. These types of facilities tend to be larger than standard playgrounds in order to accommodate people with a wide variety of special needs.

The Town looked at a variety of locations, engaged the public, and determined that Cedar Falls Park would be the best location for the Inclusive Playground. We then engaged interested residents and used their feedback to develop schematics to show how the playground might look and function.

The Inclusive Playground project drawings will lead to a series of construction plans that will be developed in phases as funds become available. Before taking next steps, Town staff are checking back with the public about whether the drawings meet the community’s needs.
