Downtown Chapel Hill is a welcoming place for all with #LotsToLove; and the Town of Chapel Hill’s new Downtown Ambassador Program aims to put, and keep, smiles on visitors’ faces!
The role of a Downtown Ambassador is to welcome people and provide assistance to ensure visitors feel welcome as they experience and explore downtown. Ready with wide-ranging knowledge of downtown's stores, restaurants, cultural venues, and special events, our Ambassadors share helpful advice and directional assistance with a passion for the community.
The Downtown Ambassador Program began this spring as the Town rolled parking operations into a fully-automated system. Now with the completion of 60 brand new parking meters installed downtown, there will no longer be parking booths with attendants. The friendly faces you were used to seeing in parking booths will now be seen throughout downtown as Ambassadors.
As our community becomes familiar with how to use the new parking meters and ParkMobile smartphone app, Downtown Ambassadors are currently assisting visitors in all of the downtown public parking spaces like the decks, garage, at lots. In August the Ambassadors will be more visible on Franklin and Rosemary streets, offering the same friendly and helpful assistance as our Town gets ready for the new UNC-Chapel Hill school year and football home games.
Feel free to approach any of the Downtown Ambassadors for information, recommendations, and directions. You'll recognize them by the bright Carolina Blue shirts that say, “Ask me a question!”. Ask for a lunch spot recommendation or directions to the free Movies Under the Stars showing.
All Town of Chapel Hill on-street parking, parking decks, and surface lots will be FREE on Saturdays in downtown Chapel Hill during the month of July. Three days remain: July 14, 21, and 28. And remember…public parking is always free on Sundays! Information at www.parkonthehill.com .
