The Town of Chapel Hill will officially dedicate Fire Station 2 on Hamilton Road at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14. You’re invited to attend the formal dedication ceremony followed by a station open house at 1003 Hamilton Road.

“We’re very excited to showcase the result of this unique arrangement to leverage Town property to accomplish multiple objectives,” said Fire Chief Matthew Sullivan. “This project provided a much-needed upgrade to a Town facility, market-demanded Class A office space, and supply to the business tax base. In addition, the Town received a substantial financial contribution from the developer, East West Partners, toward the completion of the fire station.”

Fire personnel will be on hand to answer questions from the community and give a tour of the station. Elected officials, Town staff, and retirees will perform an uncoupling of a fire hose to symbolize a ribbon cutting at the conclusion of the 30-minute program.

Parking will be available in the deck next to Fire Station 2 on Hamilton Road (see maps). Additional parking will be available on Prestwick Road.

Active Station 2
Station 2 was put into service on May 24, 2018. Orange County Emergency Services will house an ambulance and two- to three-person crew in Station 2 beginning in the coming weeks.

Station 2 personnel worked out of a temporary fire station located on Finley Golf Course Road during construction. Thanks to an agreement with UNC-Chapel Hill, the temporary location allowed the Fire Department to respond to calls without any reduction in call time or services.

Past and Present
Fire Station 2 replaced the nearly 60-year-old building that previously sat on the same property through a public-private partnership with East West Partners as well as the Orange County Commissioners.

In addition to an Orange County EMS ambulance, Chapel Hill Engine 32 and the new Truck 72 are housed in Station 2. Truck 72 is the $1.3 million bond-funded ladder company that was put in service April 2018.
