News Release from OWASA
Hillsborough Street Closed to Through Traffic May 16 through May 18
A contractor for the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) will close a portion of Hillsborough Street to through traffic from 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, through 5 p.m. Friday, May 18. This work is the final step in OWASA’s water- and sewer-line replacement under Hillsborough Street. Street reconstruction and paving is scheduled to take place this summer.
The closure will occur between Bolinwood Drive and Mill Race Drive and is necessary for the safety of the workers.
Signs will detour traffic along Bolinwood Drive, north of the closure, and through downtown Chapel Hill, south of the closure. (See maps for additional details).
Chapel Hill Transit Detour
Chapel Hill Transit will detour the A route beginning Wednesday, May 16.
The A route will be detoured (in both directions) along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. to Franklin Street to resume the normal route.
The bus stops on Hillsborough Street will not be served: Delta Zeta (#3030), Townhouse Apts. (#3031), Brookside Condos (#3032), North Street (#3107), Rosemary Street (#3108, #3473), MLK Jr. Blvd. (#3246, #3247), and Bolinwood Drive (#3248).
Customers may board the detoured bus at the alternate bus stops on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at 725 (#3449) and Foster's Market (#3449).
