East Rosemary Street Closed to Through Traffic
UPDATE (9:15 p.m. 4/15/18): The 100 block of East Rosemary Street will remain closed to through traffic throughout most of the day Monday as crews continue to secure damaged sections of the pedestrian bridge at 125 E. Rosemary Street.
The Wallace Deck will continue to be accessible from Henderson Street and the CVS Deck and Rosemary/Columbia Street Lot accessible from Columbia Street during the closure.
Town of Chapel Hill officials have put temporary safety straps in place until a crane can come in Monday to remove damaged pieces of the bridge. The road will remain closed until that is completed.
Further work will be necessary to repair the bridge and return both the bridge and roadway to normal operations.
Previously Released: The 100 block of East Rosemary Street is closed to through traffic until further notice.
All businesses and parking facilities remain open. Chapel Hill Police officers are directing traffic around the closure.
An Orange County Solid Waste truck struck the pedestrian bridge at 125 E. Rosemary Street at 6:07 a.m. Sunday morning. The pedestrian bridge was closed immediately and engineering staff are currently evaluating the bridge for structural integrity.
