Duke Energy Transmission Line Removal Public Information Meeting

Work to be conducted on Estes Drive

  • Date: 02/12/2019 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Location: Orange United Methodist Church - Fellowship Hall
1220 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
    Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514
  • Introduction: Duke Energy is inviting property owners impacted by utility work generally between Schultz Street (just north of Weaver Dairy Road) and the Cameron Avenue Substation on West
Cameron Avenue to attend an information meeting.

You may know that Duke Energy has an existing 44-kilovolt (44 kV) transmission line that runs generally between Schultz Street (just north of Weaver Dairy Road) and our Cameron Avenue Substation on West Cameron Avenue, a distance of approximately 5 miles. This line, which is referred to as the Chapel Hill 44 kV Line, is constructed on wooden poles and is currently not in service.

Because the line is inactive and does not serve an electrical need at this time, Duke Energy has determined that it would be prudent to remove the transmission infrastructure from the right-of-way. There are no immediate plans for replacement.

Duke Energy is inviting property owners impacted by utility work generally between Schultz Street (just north of Weaver Dairy Road) and the Cameron Avenue Substation on West
Cameron Avenue to attend an information meeting.

The open house will be informal, and you may drop by anytime between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Duke Energy will be available to answer questions you may have regarding the line removal process and to document any information or concerns you may have.

Contact: If you have questions now, reach out to Duke Energy at toll free 1-800-365-8979 or carolinastransmissionenhancements@duke-energy.com and someone will follow up with you within two business days.
