PA/Rural Buffer 30th Anniversary Event

This notice is being provided because the Council has been invited to attend the JPA/Rural Buffer 30th Anniversary Event Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 5:00pm - 6:15pm at the Blackwood Farm Park, 4215 NC 86, Hillsborough, NC.

Over several years starting in 1987, Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Orange County created a joint planning agreement (JPA) that governed development adjacent to the two towns. The interlocal pact limited urban growth with defined annexation limits and transition areas, and created a low-density “rural buffer” of more than 36,000 acres of farmland and residential property around both municipalities. Thirty years later we celebrate and share measurements of how the JPA has achieved its intended goals of environmental protection, curbing urban sprawl and preserving farmland, rural character and significant natural areas.
