Garden Estes Drive, Chapel Hill. Taught by composting expert Muriel Willman.

 Learn to Compost!

Muriel Williman, Education and Outreach Coordinator from Orange County Solid Waste Management, has been using the compost demonstration site at the Community Center Learning Garden for 15 years to teach the principles of backyard composting to Chapel Hill residents and students.

In fact, Muriel is leading a free Composting Class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 7, at the Learning Garden at the Chapel Hill Community Center, 120 South Estes Drive in Chapel Hill. This will be a great opportunity to learn ways to make your own gorgeous soil amendment, live more organically, and reduce waste at the same time.

Attendees will learn how to compost indoors and in tight spaces using worms, or outdoors using a variety of container types and recipes. Myths abound around composting: it smells; it attracts rodents and other undesirable critters; it’s too hard! Debunk these myths, get your green on and learn how easy it is. Anyone can compost anywhere, honest!

No registration is necessary, and children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Contact Muriel Willman at 919-968-2788 or via email at
