The Town of Chapel Hill invites the community to participate in a local discussion on climate action to be held Oct. 4 at the Chapel Hill Public Library, 100 Library Drive.

On this day, cities across the United States will convene dialogues to discuss global warming causes, impacts and solutions. Chapel Hill’s event is coordinated by the Town of Chapel Hill, the Foundation for a Sustainable Community of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, and the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). The two-part program includes a noon to 4 p.m. workshop, organized by the Foundation, and a free evening program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. hosted by the Town of Chapel Hill. Participants will have the opportunity to win a Blueline Energy Monitor from Southern Energy Management Services.

The Town of Chapel Hill is committed to sustainable practices. Selected as a “Cool City” by the Sierra Club, Chapel Hill’s goal is to reduce carbon emissions 60 percent below 2005 levels by 2050. Chapel Hill has also joined the Cities for Climate Protection, a program sponsored by the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), and will work with Carrboro, Hillsborough and Orange County to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions.
