The Chapel Hill Town Council appoints citizens to serve on a number of advisory boards and commissions. Most of these boards and commissions participate in the Town’s policy decisions by making recommendations to the Town Council. The Board of Adjustment, Historic District Commission, and Planning Board have legal authority to approve or deny certain construction or development-related applications. The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, and the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) Board of Directors are legally separate from the Town. Each board, excepting the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, and the OWASA Board, receives assistance from Town staff.
Terms of advisory boards and commissions are for three years, with the exception of the Library Board of Trustees which is four years. To be considered for appointment, please complete and return an application form to the Communications and Public Affairs Department as soon as possible.* Please note that you may file an application form at any time of the year. Your application form will be kept on file for two spring appointment cycles.
Please be aware that even if a board does not have a current vacancy listed, they will have seats which will become available as of July 1 of each year. In order to be considered for these seats it is wise to submit you application before April 1 of the year in which you would like to be appointed.Standing Boards and Commissions Current and June 30, 2014 Vacancies (as of June 12, 2014)
