CHAPEL HILL TRANSIT SERVICE ALERT: Weekend NU and Safe Ride Routes Update for Saturday, March 4th

The Weekend NU and Safe Ride routes will operate on Saturday, March 4, 2017, and will follow regular routes and schedules as long as street conditions allow safe travel. In the event Franklin Street or other streets are closed following the UNC basketball game, the Weekend NU and Safe Rides will operate on detoured routes and serve Downtown/Franklin Street areas using the following stops:

  • Weekend NU Route – pick up and drop off on Rosemary Street (near He’s Not Here), not serving Abernathy or Columbia at Rosemary stops
  • Safe T – pick up and drop off at Chapel Hill Town Hall on Martin Luther King Jr., Boulevard
  • Safe J – pick up and drop off at Franklin Street and Church Street (near Might as Well)
  • Safe G – pick up and drop off on Columbia Street at ROTC

 In the event of road closures, Chapel Hill Transit will attempt to maintain posted schedules and routes; however, customers should plan for detours and delays.

Chapel Hill Transit J Route to Detour Due to South Greensboro Street Closure March 6

Chapel Hill Transit will implement a detour for the J route beginning on Monday, March 6, 2017, due to the closure of South Greensboro Street. South Greensboro Street will be closed from Main Street to Merritt Mill Road due to a drainage upgrade project. During this time, the J route will be detoured along Main Street, Jones Ferry Road to NC Hwy 54.   The project is expected to last for approximately sixty (60) days.

Closed Stops: South Greensboro Street at Municipal Park (#3144) and South Greensboro Street at Trailer Park (#3466)

Alternate Stops:  West Main Street at IFC (Temporary Stop), Jones Ferry Road at Chapel Hill Tire (Temporary Stop), Jones Ferry Road at Bim (Temporary Stop),  Jones Ferry at OWASA (Temporary Stop), Jones Ferry Road at Alabama Avenue (#3631), and NC 54 East at Westbrook Dr. (#3458),  NC 54 East at Canterbury Apts. (#3457).

The detour and stop closures will be in-place until further notice.

Chapel Hill Transit will make every attempt to maintain normal schedules, but is advising customers to expect delays and allow extra travel time due to these detours. The detours and any delays will also impact Next­Bus predictions for the routes.

Chapel Hill Transit Routes Detoured Due to Pritchard Avenue Extension Closure Beginning Monday, January 30th

Chapel Hill Transit will implement a detour for the A, N and JN routes beginning on Monday, January 30, 2017, due to the closure of Pritchard Avenue Extension near Umstead Drive due to the Bolin Creek Trail construction. During this time, the A, N and JN routes will be detoured along Longview Drive to Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. 

Closed Stops: Longview Street at North Columbia Street - Northbound (#3046), Pritchard Avenue Extension at Trinity Court (#3033), Pritchard Avenue at Longview Street (#3047),  Longview Street at North Columbia Street (#3048)

Alternate Stops:  Temporary Stops at North Columbia Street at Longview Street - Northbound and North Columbia Street at Longview Street - Southbound.   

The detour and stop closures will be in-place until further notice.

Chapel Hill Transit to Detour the CW Routes Beginning on Tuesday, October 25th

Chapel Hill Transit will implement a detour for the Weekday and Saturday CW routes beginning on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, due to the Rosemary Street Improvement project. During this time, the CW routes will operate along Franklin Street between Downtown Chapel Hill (South Columbia) and Carrboro. The detour and stop closures will be in-place until further notice.

The A and Saturday JN routes will follow regular routes during this project.

Chapel Hill Transit will make every attempt to maintain normal schedules, but is advising customers to expect minor delays and allow extra travel time due to these detour. The detour and any delays will also impact Next­Bus predictions for the routes.
