Sculpture Country


Sculpture Country is a collaborative effort to showcase the many outdoor sculpture exhibits that occur throughout the year in Orange County, North Carolina. On this map and in the descriptions below you can find the schedules and locations of five annual sculpture shows that feature the talented artists of Orange County and the surrounding area.

1.  The Hillsborough Sculpture Tour
Through March 2014

The Hillsborough Sculpture Tour is an exciting exhibit of outdoor sculptures in walkable locations throughout Hillsborough’s nationally recognized historic district.

2.  The Garden Art Sculpture Invitational
1902 Borland Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278

Saturday May 3 & Sunday May 4, 2014

Sunday 12 - 5 p.m.

Garden Art Sculpture Invitational is an outdoor exhibition of both local and nationally recognized sculptors. Artists share expenses and all sales go directly to them. The event takes place the first weekend of May each year in a private garden setting in Hillsborough. Sculptures are uniquely situated in intimate settings to inspire one's own creative installation of sculpture in their garden landscape.

3.  Come Out And Play
JimGin Farm, 150 Wild Horse Run, Pittsboro, NC 27312

Opening August 24, 2013, noon - dark
Additional receptions August 31 and
September 7, 14, 21 from 4 p.m. to dark

The annual Come Out and Play sculpture show takes place on a 17-acre horse farm, five-and-a-half miles outside of Carrboro, is free, has food and live music at its receptions, and is offered as a gift to the community. Seventy-five sculptors, working in every imaginable medium, are invited to show at no cost and get to keep all proceeds from art sales.  The show is open to everyone, and dogs on leashes and children are especially encouraged to attend.

4.  Sculpture Visions 2013-2014
Through May 2014

Sculpture Visions is an 11-month outdoor sculpture exhibit sited in publicly accessible spaces around Chapel Hill that features a variety of styles, themes and media. These artworks create a sense of beauty, place and uniqueness that are a part of the shared experience for Chapel Hill’s residents and visitors.

5.  Sculpture in the Garden

Every fall the North Carolina Botanical Garden hosts an outdoor exhibition of exciting sculptures by North Carolina artists. This exhibition delights visitors for more than two months while the backdrop of native plant gardens changes with the season.
