ABOUT US
The Town of Chapel Hill is nationally regarded for its quality of life. Public parks and recreation are the gateways to a healthier, more livable community. In addition to our parks, trails, indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation offers a myriad of recreation programs and cultural activities for all ages and social backgrounds.

Everyone needs the opportunity for self-enrichment, adventure, fellowship and quiet reflection. At Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department, we understand these needs and are dedicated to providing cultural and recreational opportunities in a safe and inviting environment.

COMMISSIONS & COMMITTEES

The Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department serves as liaison to both the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission and the Cultural Arts Commission.

FRIENDS OF CHAPEL HILL PARKS AND RECREATION
The Friends of Parks and Recreation was created to enhance our parks, our greenways, and our recreational programs and facilities. Individuals, groups and businesses can donate to The Friends in a variety of ways: Become a member each year, select one or more projects to sponsor, plan a legacy gift for the future, or make an unspecified gift. Fall Registration Opens
• Residents  - August 7 at 8:30 a.m.
• Non-residents - August 14 at 8:30 a.m. 

 

Registration for programs occurs during three different registration sessions during the calendar year.  Each registration session is accompanied by a program brochure that becomes available to the public at least four weeks prior to the start of programs. The table below indicates registration for most programs:

 

Brochure Session: Winter/Spring Summer Fall
Registration Begins: Early January Early May Early August
Program Period: January-May* June-August** September-December

*  Summer Camp Registration Begins in February
** Fall Athletic League Registration Begins in Summer
