Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard - South Columbia - US 15-501 South Corridor Alternatives Analysis (AA) Study

Project Manager

Project Description and Status

  • This study is in the Detailed Evaluation of Alternatives phase. Capital and operating cost estimates and ridership numbers have been developed by the consultant team (AECOM).

On April 27th, 2016, the Chapel Hill Town Council adopted the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) and authorized Chapel Hill Transit staff to submit the LPA to the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) for inclusion into the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) 2040. This important decision will allow us to continue to evaluate Bus Rapid Transit and other improvements in the corridor. While this represents the first step in a long federal process - this also represents significant support for Chapel Hill Transit and transit as a major part of the transportation system for Chapel Hill, Carrboro and the University. Please follow this link to review the presentation and the brochure that summarizes the adopted LPA.  Both documents are available at www.nscstudy.org/study-documents
