Current Status

  • Meeting with Orange County, Carrboro, UNC, and others to explore shared interests and consider areas for innovation and collaboration
  • Cross-departmental team (P & R, Library, Public Arts, Downtown Partnership) currently considering both established festivals and events (Festifall, 140 West, etc) and new possibilities that would meet shared interests and goals, especially downtown
  • Assessing all current Town-sponsored Public Art programs to consider interests and partnership opportunities for the future. Special focus on two largest, marquee programs – Sculpture Visions and SHIMMER – for FY 2018
  • Growing cross-departmental collaborations for arts & culture opportunities, currently exploring new possibilities with Police, Housing, and Parks & Recreation
  • Continuing established partnerships with CHCCS and UNC, including Artists-in-Residence program at schools and cultural programs in partnership with the University, including programs at the Library (Confederate Monuments, Southern Fiction, Frederick Douglass) and downtown (Nerd Nite)
