Post Date:07/02/2012

Soccer ballChapel Hill made livability.com’s list of the nation’s "Top 10 Soccer Cities" — ranking sixth overall in the United States and third in the South. See http://livability.com/top-10/top-10-soccer-cities

Livability states that top cities (a review of small to mid-size cities) have invested in their future by investing in soccer. They found that cities with impressive soccer complexes also have great parks, well-maintained streets and a host of other amenities that provide residents with a high quality of life.

About Chapel Hill, the article noted: "There are more than 5,200 soccer players in the city, which has three main clubs – Rainbow Soccer, Triangle United and the YMCA. Triangle United is the largest of these clubs and has approximately 3,000 players each season. Rainbow Soccer is the oldest soccer club in Chapel Hill. It was formed in 1971 and averages about 1,600 players each year."

The top 10:

1. Overland Park, Kan.
2. Plano, Texas
3. San Bernardino, Cal.

5. Murfreesboro, Tenn.
6. Chapel Hill
