A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation (DOT) will continue downtown street-resurfacing operations on South Columbia Street (between Franklin Street and Manning Drive), Cameron Avenue (between Columbia and Pittsboro streets), and Pittsboro Street from 7 a.m. to sunset Saturday, Aug. 4, and Sunday, Aug. 5.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the work zone.

The Town and DOT worked closely on all summer resurfacing schedules to limit major impacts wherever possible. Performing this work on the weekend reduces impacts on the Transit system during peak travel times.

Chapel Hill Transit Closures
The following bus stops will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 4:

  • South Columbia at Frat Court (#3179)
  • South Columbia at Abernathy Hall (#3178)
  • Pittsboro Street at Newman Center (#3211)
  • Pittsboro Street at Credit Union (#3226)
  • Pittsboro Street at University Drive (3224)
  • South Columbia at Health Sciences (#3223)
  • South Columbia at Carrington Hall (#3222)
  • South Columbia at ROTC (#3437)

The following Saturday routes will not serve the closed bus stops: CM, CW, JN, T and V. Customers may board the buses at the alternate Downtown bus stops: South Columbia at Franklin (#3421), South Columbia at Rosemary (#3383), East Franklin at Coffee Shop (#3427) and East Franklin at Varsity Theater (#3428).

The CM, CW and JN routes will be detoured along South Columbia, Mason Farm Road, East Drive and Manning Drive to allow customers to use the temporary bus stop on Manning Drive at South Columbia Street. The JN route will serve the alternate bus stop on Manning Drive at UNC Hospitals heading towards Rock Haven.

UNC Football Meet the Heels
UNC Athletics will host the annual “Meet the Heels” event with the UNC-Chapel Hill football team from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Kenan Stadium.

Carolina fans are encouraged to come to Chapel Hill through south campus, avoiding travel through downtown on the way to the event. For information about the event, including parking, visit https://goheels.com/news/2018/7/26/football-meet-the-heels-coming-up-aug-4.aspx.
