The Chapel Hill Police Department is rolling out new parking initiatives to make parking downtown easier.

Through a joint partnership between the Police Department and the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, a redesign of the website, parkonthehill.com, helps residents and visitors find the most affordable and most convenient parking through an interactive Google map. Users can search by address, intersection or name of attraction and sort by the various types of parking available.

“The new Park on the Hill website better communicates the large amount of parking available in Chapel Hill, especially downtown,” said Chapel Hill Police Chief and Executive Director for Community Safety Chris Blue. “We’ve expanded our footprint and improved our meters, and we’re very proud to introduce a new site that helps the community quickly and easily connect with all of our parking options.”

The website launch is part of a larger pledge to improve parking visibility and awareness for both residents and visitors. The official campaign, #LotsToLove, will launch in May and focus on educating everyone about the Town’s new wayfinding signage for parking, improved digital meters, and downtown ambassador programs and the Park Mobile app.

A milestone for the police department and its team which has been working on improving the way Chapel Hill engages and perceives parking, the site also serves as the Town’s public platform for sharing important information and updates about parking. The ultimate guidance for all things parking, new content on the site includes a “Things to Know” section and a “Parking Cheat Sheet” designed to help residents avoid tickets and other parking pitfalls.

The new website is a huge component of the changes coming to Park On The Hill, but there are still more exciting developments to come. Stay in the loop by checking out parkonthehill.com, by following Park On The Hill on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and by using and searching the hashtags #ParkOnTheHill and #LotstoLove.
