Street Design Workshop
Join us for our first community Street Design Workshop where we will reimagine our streets as safer, greener, and more enjoyable elements of the public realm. (Photo examples from West Palm Beach, FL, Fayetteville, AR and Akron, OH)
This workshop focuses on Intersection Design, utilizing participatory planning tools sometimes known as DIY urbanism, tactical urbanism, or Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper (LQC) to implement temporary solutions to challenges in the built environment.
This is a way to test out new ideas before investing significant time and money into a project. The best part is that you can help! We want people in Chapel Hill to bring their creative ideas to the table and start sketching with us!
The workshop will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Hargraves Center and is open to the public.
The event will include a brief presentation on the principles of tactical urbanism/DIY urbanism/LCQ, examples of other street design experiments, a group activity to sketch creative intersection designs, and a final vote at the end to determine a project to implement in Downtown.
