Tree Removals: Cameron Avenue and Franklin Street

Post Date:08/10/2017 4:15 PM
Trees in Chapel Hill

A tree at the southwest corner of Cameron Avenue and Cameron Glen Drive and a tree at the southeast corner of Franklin Street and Battle Lane have died posing potential risk to people in the area if the trees were to fall. The trees are scheduled to be removed on Wednesday, August 16, and replaced this fall.

The Town’s arborist has been monitoring the trees. They did not produce foliage this season. The safest course of action is removal.

The removal near Cameron Avenue will require the bike lane to be closed; the Franklin Street removal will require a brief lane closure.

Tree City
The Town of Chapel Hill, which has a strong commitment to sustainability and interest in decreasing the urban “heat-island” effect, regrets when trees must be replaced. Our Tree Protection Ordinance identifies tree canopy as an important community value. We are proud that this year marks our 18th year as a Tree City, a designation from the national Arbor Day Foundation. Visit our Trees webpage at
