Update: Due to weather, this project has been delayed and will begin on Thursday. At this time, it is still projected to be completed by Friday, June 23.
On Wednesday, June 21, an Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) contractor will start work to restore pavement on part of Hillsborough Street, north of East Rosemary Street, where a water pipe was replaced in 2016.
The work will likely be complete by Friday, June 23, but weather and other conditions may affect the start and end of work. The contractor's work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The pavement work will involve closing the northbound lane of Hillsborough Street in the work area. Flaggers along Hillsborough Street will direct traffic during the work, and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. The map shows the location of the pavement work.
The pavement work will involve an area on Hillsborough Street, about 10 feet wide and 800 feet long, from the East Rosemary Street intersection to the north as shown on the map.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. Bus routes will not be affected.
Future work in Hillsborough Street
In July, OWASA will begin to replace water lines in Hillsborough Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the point near North Street where water piping was replaced last year.
In the summer of 2018, the Town of Chapel Hill will resurface the full width of Hillsborough Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Rosemary Street.
