Chapel Hill Transit Needs Your Input!
The Chapel Hill Transit service area is continuing to grow and how people get around is changing. Building on past planning work, Chapel Hill Transit is conducting a Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP) that will service as a roadmap for the next 10 years and position the system for continued future success. This plan is being developed in coordination with similar short range transit planning efforts being undertaken by Orange Public Transportation and GoTriangle.

Town Manager Announces Executive Director for Community Safety
Town Manager Roger Stancil has announced the addition of Executive Director for Community Safety to Police Chief Chris Blue’s title and responsibilities.
“We look forward to the opportunity to think about community safety in a different way, bringing a renewed level of energy and focus to the ongoing Community Safety Partnership,” Stancil said.
Chief Blue will retain direct responsibility for Police and Parking and will begin conversations and to work with his fellow department heads to consider how ongoing Code Enforcement, Inspections operations, Fire, Traffic Engineering, and Bike and Pedestrian efforts will be connected to his new role.
“Our ongoing goal is to refine our organizational structure to focus on key community priorities in a collaborative and innovative way,” Stancil said. “The strategic policy leadership of an executive director focusing on community safety will serve the Town well with open channels of communication to other Town departments.”
Chief Blue was hired in 1997 by the Town of Chapel Hill as a police officer. He accepted the position of Police Chief in 2010. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1990 and a Master’s in Public Administration from N.C. State in 2005.
Chief Blue received the 2017 Duke Energy Citizenship & Service Award at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on Thursday, Feb. 2, recognizing him for his public service and commitment to the people of Chapel Hill. The Duke Energy Citizenship & Service Award is a tribute to individuals or groups who make a difference in their communities and organizations by using their time, talents and compassion to positively impact the lives of others.
